New Swedish national research center on Trustworthy Edge Computing Systems and Applications (TECoSA)

New applications of artificial intelligence, augmented reality and collaborative smart cyber-physical systems require a new paradigm where local computing power - so called edge computing systems, enable real-time solutions that contribute to an economically and environmentally sustainable industry. Edge computing is a new computing layer, typically located between the devices/embedded systems and the cloud, at the “edge of the network”. Edge nodes can perform computations and provide storage for several devices/embedded systems, addressing issues caused by the large amount of data generated by an ever increasing amount of connected smart devices and sensors, and providing real-time (AI augmented) services that relieve network capacity, enhance privacy and are suitable for mission and safety critical systems. Edge computing is in focus of the recently established Swedish national research center on Trustworthy Edge Computing Systems and Applications (TECoSA). TECoSA brings together a strong composition of complementary partners, encompassing KTH experts from relevant fields and partners from several industrial domains to create a long-term multidisciplinary research and innovation environment with a focus on secure, safe and predictable edge computing systems and applications Projected outcomes include scientific results, open source and trained persons on edge computing systems modeling, resource management, machine learning, lightweight security, and architecting. Membership in TECoSA is also open to non-Swedish organizations.
