The background of the ARTEMIS Working Groups goes back to the first ARTEMIS Strategic Research Agenda (SRA) issued in 2006. The holistic approach of the SRA to R&I in Embedded Intelligent Systems also required the support of activities outside the range of what could be executed in the R&I projects. Therefore the SRA identified several objectives that were essential to ‘Make it Happen’, as the chapter title was named. To implement such activities, the ARTEMIS Industry Association Steering Board decided to establish the following Working Groups:
Working Group | Chair(s) | Starting year |
Strategic Research Agenda | Patrick Pype | 2007 |
Standardisation | Josef Affenzeller | 2008 |
Success Criteria & Metrics | Patrick Pype | 2008 |
SME involvement | Pedro Ruiz | 2009 |
Tool Platforms | Werner Damm | 2009 |
Education and training | Erwin Schoitsch | 2009 |
Centres of Innovation Excellence | Jerker Delsing | 2009 |
Repository | Matias Vierimaa | 2011 |
From IoT to SoS | Paolo Azzoni | 2018 |
These Working Groups have actually added much value to the ARTEMIS programme, since they create the ARTEMIS Innovation Environment.
The most important achievements of the Working Groups have been published in the ARTEMIS Magazines and in the ARTEMIS Book of Successes. The achievements of the Working Groups are considered by the outside world as programme level achievements, unique to ARTEMIS. This demonstrates that the Working Group activities have been and still are essential contributions to the success of ARTEMIS.
An important achievement is the introductions of the labelled Centres of Innovation Excellence, directly resulting from the Working Group CoIE activities. Another result is the concept of ARTEMIS Innovation Pilot Projects, a new and innovative concept in project definition, created by the Working Group SRA.
